Soul Food Ministry

Soul Food Ministry purpose“To bless people with warm meals in body and spirit” and for those who come to worship at special evening services at Good Shepherd.

Each meal will consist of frozen homemade soup, along with bread, salad, and dessert; including a bag tag with a blessing and contact information for Good Shepherd. These meals are intended for our Good Shepherd families, friends, relatives, or neighbors experiencing a difficult time such as: prolonged illness, a death, financial crisis, etc.  It can be a "one time" thing or an "on-going blessing." This ministry seeks to SERVE people with the love of Christ.

How can I help support this ministry?

  1. If you know of someone who could be blessed with a “Soul Food” meal, just fill out a Soul Food request form and place it in the drop box on the Welcome Center or contact the church office. The Soul Food Team will take it from there.  If you would like to be the one to deliver the meal, indicate that preference on the form.
  2. Write a check to "Good Shepherd" with "Soul Food" on the memo line and place in a Soul Food envelope and place in the drop box on the Welcome Center to help defray the costs of this ministry.
  3. Donate new food containers.
  4. Consider volunteering throughout the year to help prepare and cook the soups, deliver meals to designated homes, and help serve when soup is offered during Lent and Advent.
  5. Pray that our Soul Food Ministry would serve those in need and share Christ's love in an effective manner.

Quilting!

This established group meets on Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:00 pm in the lower level of the church.

The quilting group does mission quilts for Lutheran World Relief, and also quilts of valor and small pillows that go to our brave wounded soldiers serving in Afghanistan.  We also do quilts of comfort for people within our congregation and community who are experiencing serious illness or loss in their lives.

Together they serve those who need to know there are many in the Christian community that want to remind them how much they are loved and cared about by God and that he is always with them in their times of trouble.

Centennial Community Food Shelf

The Local food shelf has moved to a new location  from Our Saviors Lutheran Church to the old police station in Circle Pines (connected with Circle Pines City Hall - in the lower level) at 200 Civic Heights Dr.

Good Shepherd continues to support and thanks everyone for their generous contributions to the local food shelf.

The community food shelf is here to help those in need through monthly food supplements. The demand has increased over the past couple of years and is expected to rise even more over time. Food donations can be dropped off at Good Shepherd and placed in the collection bin located in the lobby of the church.

If you would like to donate money directly to the Centennial Food Shelf mail your donation in c/o Gethsemane United Methodist Church, 7330 Lake Dr., Lino Lakes, MN 55014.

The Centennial Food Shelf provides emergency foods (3-5 days’ supply) for about 250 local households each month.

Volunteers are needed to serve on the first Thursday of the month from 3:45-6:15 pm at the Centennial Community Food Shelf located at 200 Civic Heights Dr, Circle Pines (in the lower level of the old police station connected to City Hall).  Team members come together with a driving compassion to serve the community by meeting the needs of others. Please contact the church office if you are interested in volunteering.

Everyone Helping on Wednesdays!

"Everyone Helping on Wednesdays" has been created to provide opportunities to serve at Feed My Starving Children as a family in the name of Jesus Christ.

How do we sign-up ? Throughout the year we provide a sign-up sheet in the church lobby when Good Shepherd has set dates.  We, as a congregation commit to Feed My Starving Children to fill volunteer slots each of the designated Wednesdays. Please sign-up for as many opportunities as you are able to set aside and invite family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors to join us in serving others together as one large family in the name of Jesus Christ!

DATES TO BE DETERMINED

Operation Christmas Child

Good Shepherd supports Operation Christmas Child, a global Christmas gift exchange project operated by Samaritan's Purse.  Each November empty boxes and information on Operation Christmas Child are available for you to pick-up in the church lobby.  From there you purchase toys, school supplies, personal items, and other gifts to fill the box. The boxes are then brought back to Good Shepherd where they are then distributed as Christmas gifts to millions of children each year in more than 130 countries.  Every child that receives a box will also hear about Jesus Christ.

Giving Tree

Each year during Christmas, Good Shepherd gives the opportunity to share the Christmas spirit with our church family friends and people in need within our community.

How does it work?

  • Pick as many gift card tags as you'd like off the "Giving Tree" in the church lobby.
  • Purchase the gift cards in any dollar amount you choose from Target, Walmart, Cub, Festival Foods, and Holiday gas (please write dollar amount on card).
  • Place the gift card in the drop off box on the Welcome Center during the designated dates in December.
  • Good Shepherd will distribute the gift cards to families in need from our congregation and families to whom we minister to in the community.

Gift cards are always needed throughout the year for families in need.
